Cut through the noise and the AI conversation splits into two unhelpful camps: "it replaces everyone" or "it's a harmless toy." Neither is true. Here's where it actually pays for itself, and where it still falls short.
Content and marketing operations. Drafting, repurposing, and scheduling, the volume work that used to eat entire afternoons, now takes minutes, freeing that time for the strategy and judgement calls that actually need a human.
First line customer service triage. Routing enquiries and answering the questions that come up fifty times a week, so your team's time goes toward the problems that genuinely need a person.
Internal reporting and analysis. Turning scattered data into a read you can act on the same day, instead of a report that lands weeks after the decision it was meant to inform.
Judgement calls that carry real consequence. AI can lay out options. It shouldn't be making the call for you when the stakes are high.
Relationship led sales. Where trust is the actual product being sold, a template response is worse than no response.
Strategic decisions. AI is very good at summarising the past. It cannot decide your future for you.
It's rarely about which tool you pick. Three things determine whether AI adds value or just adds noise: data quality, process clarity, and team buy-in. If your processes are messy going in, AI just makes the mess move faster.
AI readiness isn't "have you tried ChatGPT." It's whether your business is set up in a way that any new capability, AI or otherwise, has something clean to plug into.
